For the Imperium

Well it’s been a while since I’ve done an update and I think it’s a damn shame.  So I’m going to do my best to get back on the “at least 1 update a week” wagon.  Starting with...

For the Imperium.  This four piece act from Finland has a very unique sound that is hard to describe.  It is almost like the band has taken all of the aspects of artists such as Coheed and Cambria, Marylin Manson, Rob Zombie, Protest the Hero, Fall of Troy, Refused (and so many other artists) that people enjoy, mash it up into something completely their own.  It has been a while since I have gotten into a band so fast.  I would highly suggest checking out their facebook page here and their youtube page here.

Here is their video for Working Class Heroine off of their Self-titled debut album

Ramones Feature

The Ramones have been one of my favourite bands for as long as I can remember.  So when I was asked to put together a feature on a band in my first year of college, I had to pick them.  This is a quick feature that I put together about the Ramones during early 2010.

La Dispute Covers Third Eye Blind

La Dispute recently played a show in their hometown of Grand Rapids, Michigan and played a couple of cover songs.  One of them was a cover of Third Eye Blind’s song Graduate.  I was pretty excited to see the video of a band that I listen to so much now covering a song that I’ve listened to since it first came out back in 1997.  I never really expected La Dispute to cover a song like this, but they did a pretty good job I think.  It was a bit shaky at times but they always bring so much energy to the stage that overshadows any minor flaws.  The crowd seemed really into the song and I can’t blame them.  I would be jumping off of that stage with them had I been lucky enough to be at that show.

For those that are unfamiliar with La Dispute:
The band formed in 2004 in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  They first released an EP entitled Vancouver in 2006.  That was followed up with a few 7” records until 2008 when they released their first album Somewhere At The Bottom Of The River Between Vega And Altair.  During November/December of 2010, the band toured Canada with Alexisonfire and Norma Jean.  The Michigan group recently recorded a follow up to their 2008 debut and it is set to be released on October 4th, 2011.  Their sophomore album will be called Wildlife.  Here is a track off of the up coming album.

An Introduction/Pressure Makes Diamonds Feature

Welcome to my new found ambition.  Gutter Phenomenon is a place for music, mostly in the punk/metal genres (it definitely will not be limited to just that).  My goal is to have, at the very least, one update per week about happenings in the music world.  I will be posting album reviews, interviews and pretty much anything  music related that I find interesting.

To start off, I’m posting the feature that I put together about Pressure Makes Diamonds.  The Whitby, Ontario band got their start as a Protest the Hero cover band in the dorm rooms of Carleton University.  Since their coming together in December of 2008, the band has been hard at work writing songs and playing shows whenever they can.  The band released a demo in 2010 called Volume 1 (click here to download).  The quartet currently have some new songs written and are hoping to unleash them upon the world sometime in the not too distant future.  For more info about PMD check out their myspace and facebook page.
